The Goldberg research prize

Early in September 2015 Prof David Elata was awarded the Alexander Goldberg Technion research prize. Prof Elata was awarded the prize following a research project he performed, in which he developed and proved the feasibility of a new type of electro-mechanic charging battery. In standard batteries, electrical energy is stored as chemical potential, and charging the battery or using capacity from it involves moving ions. In the mechanical battery that David developed, electrical energy is stored directly in the deformation of mechanical springs, without a need for convertors, generators or rotation.
