- Suitable prior academic achievements (over 85 in the bachelor’s degree, over 90 in the master’s degree as of the submission stage).
- Must have already submitted a research topic and completed half of the credits for the degree.
- Proven ability to conduct independent research / academic publication.

- The Faculty Graduate Studies Committee will review the applicant’s achievements and decide on their acceptance.
Special PhD Track
This special track is designed for outstanding students who have just completed their bachelor’s degree. Admissions criteria and procedures are outlined in the catalog of the Graduate School (Sections 32.05 and 34.02 of the regulations).
A PhD applicant must find an advisor from the Faculty before submitting the application for admission, because the handling of the application requires the intervention of an advisor. In special cases (for example, when the applicant comes from overseas), the coordinator of the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee will assist the candidate in finding an advisor. In any case, failure to find an advisor stops the admissions process.
Admission requirements:
In addition to suitable previous academic achievements (over 90% in undergraduate studies), the applicant must demonstrate proven ability to conduct independent research. The Faculty Graduate Studies Committee will review the applicant’s achievements and decide whether they must pass the admission exam. Based on the results of the exam, the committee will determine whether the candidate will be accepted and under what conditions.
Program requirements:
- Compliance with the special conditions imposed by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee (if any).
- Completion of at least eight 8 credits in the graduate program/28 in the direct PhD track.
- Submission of a research proposal prior to the exam and its defense before a committee.
- Seminar lecture, the date of which will be published in the Technion newsletter.
- Submission of a paper about the research and defense of the research before a committee.
- Compliance with the language requirements according to the Graduate School’s regulations.
