Prof. Alon Wolf

Dear students, graduates, members of the academic and administrative staff of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and visitors,

I am honored to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technion. As a graduate of this institution, I am proud to be at the helm of a faculty that has a long tradition of excellence in engineering education and research. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is a vital cornerstone of Israel’s society and industry, and I am excited to be part of this diverse and dynamic community.

My goal as dean is to continue to maintain and promote the Faculty’s culture of cooperation, innovation and excellence, and to support the personal growth and development of students, faculty, and staff. I am committed to working with the entire faculty family to ensure that we continue to provide academic education and research experience at the highest international standards, and to ensure that our research continues to positively impact the world and humanity, while we adhere to the highest academic principles and ethics. In addition to education and research at the academic level, I believe that part of our mandate as a leading Faculty in Israel and globally is to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists in our fields of expertise by engaging in and supporting educational activities that will inspire our youth. In addition, I strongly believe in activities that communicate science to the general public and in participating in volunteer outreach programs that take advantage of our skills and expertise to make a positive impact on society.

I have fond memories of my time as a student at the Faculty, and I am grateful for the education and experience I gained here. I am confident and will make sure that our students receive the same high-quality education and gain the same opportunities I had during my time as student. I am excited and look forward to watching your achievements in the future.

The field of mechanical engineering is dynamic and constantly evolving, adapting itself to the needs of a rapidly changing world. Indeed, we live in a time of transformation, some say perhaps the most significant changes in human history. As a result, we see that mechanical engineers play important roles in addressing some of the challenges facing society today such as climate change, renewable energy, industry and human health. One area of significant potential impact for growth and innovation is the development of sustainable technologies and systems, such as more efficient and renewable energy sources and more environmentally friendly transportation. Furthermore, advanced robotics, automation, big data, and artificial intelligence will continue to shape the future of humanity. I am excited and proud to see our graduates and faculty members integrate into and contribute to the developments in these important areas.

Mechanical engineers are renowned for their ability to think at a systemwide level and see the big picture. This is one of the main reasons they become industry leaders. The broad education we provide our students enables them to solve complex problems and find creative solutions with long-term impact. Above all, we are confident that mechanical engineering and the faculty at the Technion will continue to be at the forefront of technological and social progress. I am committed to promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration within the faculty to convert this vision into reality.

I look forward to welcoming each and every one of you as you enter the Faculty, and to working together to build an even more active and strong community for the benefit of Israel and the whole world.

Sincerely,
Alon Wolf
Dean
