The Reamim program for outstanding students in mechanical engineering is designed to encourage students who excel to rapidly integrate into research and study towards their MSc and PhD at the Faculty. Students can join the program from the end of the third semester onwards. Once admitted, they can choose advanced courses from other tracks and also take graduate-level courses during their undergraduate studies. In addition, students will be able to complete their BSc and MSc in a shorter time, as well as continue to their PhD in an accelerated track.
Students in the program receive close personal guidance and financial support for outstanding students, as well as the opportunity to serve as teaching assistants in the Faculty in their fourth year of studies.
Procedure
Admission
- At least 60 credits from the recommended curriculum by the end of the third semester of studies.
- A grade point average (cumulative) of at least 90.
- Admission to the program is through the Undergraduate Studies Secretary with the approval of the Undergraduate Studies Center at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
- The Undergraduate Studies Center will also consider applications from students who do not meet one of the above criteria.
Curriculum
- The planned curriculum has two stages. In the first, students enroll in a BSc program. At the end of the fourth year or earlier, they will obtain their BSc subject to the final requirements of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In the second stage, students will study towards their MSc, at the end of which they will receive a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering subject to the final requirements of the Graduate School. Continuing to a PhD or shifting to a direct PhD track will be subject to the requirements of the Graduate School.
- A personal curriculum for students will be determined based on the advice and guidelines of the head of the Reamim program.
- Students in the program will conduct an annual personal research project (totaling 4 credits), which can serve as the basis for their MSc research topic. The topic and research plan must be approved by the head of the Reamim program, and the transition to an MSc must be approved by the Graduate School at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
- Students admitted to the program can serve as paid teaching assistants during their fourth year.
- Outstanding advanced students will receive a scholarship that will cover part of their undergraduate tuition. When they begin their graduate studies, they will be entitled to a tuition scholarship and a living stipend subject to the guidelines of the Graduate School.
- When students begin the second stage of the program and are admitted to the Graduate School, the credits of the graduate-level courses accumulated in the first stage will be credited in their favor, provided they accumulated more than 157.5 credits in the first stage of the program.
Rejoining the Standard Curriculum
- Reamim students may, at any time, rejoin the standard undergraduate track. All credits accumulated that meet the requirements of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering undergraduate studies will be recognized for the BSc, even if they do not correspond to the track the student elects.
- Participation in the program is contingent upon demonstrating academic excellence (at least 20 credits per semester with a cumulative average of at least 90). Continuing education in the program by students who do not meet these requirements will be discussed by the Undergraduate Studies Committee, which may decide to terminate a student’s enrollment in the program.
- In the latter case, students must comply with the requirements for undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (if they have not yet completed the requirements that make them eligible for a BSc in the program). In this case, all credits accumulated as part of the Reamim program will be recognized even if they do not align with the track they choose. Students will be required to submit a summary of their research project according to the requirements of the final undergraduate project. MSc courses may be recognized as undergraduate electives.
