Education

  • 1972 - B.Sc., Mechanical Engineering, University of Colorado, Boulder.
  • 1974 - M.Sc., Applied Mechanics, University of California, Berkeley.
  • 1979 - Ph.D., Applied Mechanics, University of California, Berkeley.

Research Interests

  • Continuum Mechanics Continuum mechanics is a basic theoretical field which includes most branches of Mechanical Engineering as special cases. It deals with general equations which predict deformations and heat flow in bodies subjected to mechanical and thermal loads. Of main interest is the development of constitutive equations which predict the response of engineering materials (including both solids and fluids).
  • Thermodynamics of continuous media
  • Viscoplasticity, Shell theory, Rod theory
  • Applications of the theory of a Cosserat Point to numerical solutions of problems in continuum mechanics
  • Response and growth of biological soft tissues
