SUMMARY:Seminar: Transient Resonant Regimes and Localized States of Essenti
 ally Nonlinear Media: Analytical Study
DESCRIPTION:Theoretical characterization and control of transient\, resonan
t responses of many real mechanical systems encounter significant challeng
es due to their essential nonlinearity. Strong nonlinearity\nmanifests in
systems with intermittently interacting components such as granular materi
als\, structures with breathing cracks\, interlocking materials\, suspensi
on bridges as well as in smooth systems such as for instance light and sle
nder structures exhibiting high amplitude vibrations. Understanding their
strongly nonlinear and highly nonstationary behavior under various loading
conditions is crucial for successful engineering design in many applicati
ons. While many previous analytical studies primarily focused on the stead
y-state phase of the response of forced\, essentially nonlinear media\, tr
ansient responses play a crucial role in many real-life applications. My p
 resentation covers three key aspects.
