Mechanical Engineering provides the engineering infrastructure for all modern, advanced industry. The mechanical engineer suggests scientific and technological innovations and implements them by developing and building products which provide for the needs of humanity and for its welfare.
In order to achieve this, the mechanical engineer requires knowledge and experience in many and diverse fields combining basic sciences with engineering applications, and taking into consideration ecological and financial implications.
It is difficult to imagine any technological system which does not include the intensive involvement of mechanical engineers. The mechanical engineer has a crucial role in the development, planning and implementation of advanced manufacturing machinery, robots, computerized mechanical systems for general and medical applications, electro-optic equipment, computer- aided planning, cooling of electronic chips, as well as power stations for the production of electricity from renewable and non-renewable power sources, land air and sea transportation vehicles, and heating and cooling systems for climate control. Today’s rapidly developing technology makes many demands on the mechanical engineer in the basic sciences and in the advanced technologies which are grounded upon them.
